Attorney Gen. Alberto Gonzalez will today announce that he has submitted his resignation, the New York Times reported at about 7 a.m. today.
The timing is interesting. Won’t Congress be out of session for a while?. I wonder if this was the plan, to give a new person some merciful relief from the onslaught.
Love him or hate him, it has been sad to see the sharks gathering around this man for the past months. On the other hand, that’s the nature of politics at the moment.
In the end, the objective seems not so much to be the utter destruction of individual persons as the attempt to render the current administration powerless for the next 17 months (no matter the cost to individuals), much as the dems did to Hoover in ‘31 and ‘32 (Reading the Oxford History of the period just now). New times, old tactics. And it worked then. Probably will now.
Unfortunately, the price will be paid by the next administration, which can expect the same ruthless treatment by its adversaries. And by the people of this country.
